A Registered Agent (or "RA") is a state-required person or entity designated to receive official legal documents and government notices on behalf of your business. This includes critical items like:
You must designate a Registered Agent when you form your LLC or corporation, and you must maintain one for the entire life of your business to stay in "good standing" with the state.
While you *can* legally be your own Registered Agent, it comes with significant risks and downsides that can harm your business and your privacy.
Your agent's address is public record. Using your home address means it's listed online for everyone to see.
If you're on vacation or at a meeting, you could miss a critical, time-sensitive legal notice, leading to a default judgment.
You must be physically present at your listed address during all business hours (9-5, M-F). You can't travel or move freely.
Our service is more than just a mailbox. It's a complete compliance and privacy shield for your business.
We use our professional address, not yours. This keeps your home address off public records, protecting you from junk mail and unwanted visitors.
The moment we receive a legal notice or state document, our local team scans it and uploads it to your secure dashboard. You get an email notification immediately.
Never miss a deadline. We track your state's Annual Report due dates and send you alerts, so you always stay in good standing.
Our support team is here for you for the life of your business, not just during formation. We're always just a call or email away.
Our process is designed for maximum efficiency.
All official legal and state correspondence is sent to our local office in your state of formation.
Our team opens and scans your documents in high resolution. Junk mail is filtered and discarded.
You receive an email alert and the scanned document appears in your secure online dashboard, available 24/7.
Our professional Registered Agent service is included free for the first year with any of our business formation packages.
Start Your Business TodayCommon questions about the Registered Agent service.
In most states, yes. However, you must have a physical address (not a P.O. Box) in that state and be available during all business hours to receive legal mail. This means you can't take long lunches, go on vacation, or move without filing a change of agent. Most importantly, your home address becomes public record. Using our service avoids all of these hassles.
After your first free year (included with your formation package), the Registered Agent service will renew at our standard annual rate, currently $149/year. We will notify you well in advance of your renewal date. You are not obligated to renew, but you are required by law to maintain a Registered Agent at all times.
Absolutely. If you formed your company elsewhere or are acting as your own agent, you can switch to us at any time. We'll even handle the "Change of Agent" filing with the state for you.
A Registered Agent address is a specific legal requirement for receiving official mail (Service of Process, state notices). A business address (like a virtual mailbox) is for your regular business mail (checks, invoices, customer letters). They are not the same, and you cannot use a standard P.O. Box or mail-forwarding service as your RA.
You need a Registered Agent in every state where your company is legally registered to do business. This includes your "home" state (state of formation) and any "foreign" states where you have registered to "transact business." Our service can cover you in all 50 states.
